They knew, even while I was a child, that I was ungovernable and that they had to forgo the need to control me and my destiny; which I'm forever thankful for. Parents are your providers, carers and supporters, but not your deciders...
That’s so great to hear that you had that experience with your parents. Allowing you to find yourself in your own way. There are some really amazing parents in the world, that’s for sure. It’s really unfortunate when people have to deal with parents who seek to control or run their life well into adulthood because they think they know best.
Yeah, I'm not sure I could have been me if I grew up in a different family, so I feel for the people facing those issues. Especially so if they have desires to take an unconventional path in life...

I definitely have a ton of respect for people embedded in strong family units who are able to walk their path in spite of it. Tough.
