WOW, thank you for this. I have been receiving so many revelations in all these years, sometimes resisting, sometimes listening... But this story is totally inspiring... No More excuses... Thank you😊

Believing in our inner knowings and revelations are fundamental to walking a path that is our own. So I love that this article and Murakami's story could act as inspiration in the pursuit of something higher.

I’ve regularly had the call to write a book, and yet I tell myself that because I have not already been constantly making up stories since childhood that I must not be a writer. I find myself constantly waiting for the “right” thing to pursue, certain I’ll know it when I find it but never actually attempting much of anything!

I just googled how old was Murakami when he started writing and he was 29, my exact age. If that is not a strange synchronicity moment this morning then I am not sure what is! I feel sick and scared but ready to begin.

I love when those overlaps and synchronous moments occur. As if to remind us that we too have something more within us. Attempting to pursue our path, no matter what happens, is an act that will take us closer.

Such an insightful and engaging style of writing, unlike so much "self-improvement" content around nowadays, and compete with insights at the end, quotes, and all the other bells and whistles too! Superb piece. Murakami is one of my favorite authors!

I suppose just as it is vital to heed the call of these flashes of guidance and direction, so too is it a critical skill to recognize when these flashes take place to begin with. I wonder if or when I might have my own, or if perhaps I've already had one before and just didn't know it. Can't wait for your next post.

Brilliant point, the recognition of those moments are vital as they seem to happen differently for many of us, whispered inner voices, visceral feelings, visionary flashes of future states of being in the world are all examples. So knowing how we interact with this material is super useful. Learning more about how our own works by exploring past points of self-doubt or hesitation would be useful, because it likely occurred just before those doubts popped up. Glad you enjoyed the article!

"He believes in what he experiences. He takes his inner world as a serious source of Truth."

You're pointing out what so many ignore. At the peril of their own Self.

If we don't listen to that quiet persistent voice inside, how can we expect to feel whole?

It shouldn't surprise us if our life feels of the mark.

Thank you for these important insights..

Thank you. I often reflect on how these moments (such as the one quoted here from Murakami) have such a different grain of feeling to them. It’s quite an extraordinary communication

Denying our sacred calling/vocation is denying our very existence. We came from a creator, thus making us partakes in that same story. What an incredible story, and delightfully inspiring, thank you for such a concise explanation and brilliant writing!

I would advise everyone that endeavors to follow such a path to read “The intellectual life” by A.D Sertillanges; it will drastically change your perspective about such a calling and the role we play in the world…

Thank you Joel for penning this down and encouraging everyone to believe in their inner voice. Many refuse to hear it, many refuse to let it talk to them. I think often times it’s always telling the truth. This article was insightful and hopeful, mostly.

Great, inspiring post. Glad to be reminded about this story from Murakami. Just FYI, you misspelled his first name - Haruki
